Joe Deutch is a New York magazine Critic's Pick. Jerry Saltz writes,

Pushing art's boundaries, his body's tolerance, and the law, the work of Joe Deutch is hard-core with heart, hate, and love. He's a sort of self-sacrificing, last exit avenging demon of performance art and societal norms. In this show, Deutch boots a Los Angeles police car in broad daylight, toys with being bitten by a rattlesnake, and posts the words I HAVE A GUN on an L.A. freeway overpass. Deutch’s art places himself and his audience in a strange space together, one where ethics, empathy, fear, and loathing mingle bitterly in the blood.
